Possibly you tried to click on a link on the page before it had completely and properly loaded. You may have introduced an incomplete or corrupted scene file to the Cache on your hard drive. In Windows 98 the easiest way to fix the problem is to go to your desktop and click "Start" and "Find Files". Type in "cache" and find which cache contains the "www.colonycity" cache files. Delete them and new ones will load the next time you are at Colony City.
Another way if you are using Netscape 4.0 or higher is (on the browser menu) to go to "Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Cache/then click "Clear Memory Cache" and "Clear Disk Cache". The box below will also indicate the directory where your cache files are stored.
Click on the "Update" link on your homepage. Click on the "Personal Data" link. Change the "Chat Default" designation to "p". Click the "Update" Button at the bottom of the page to save the change and return to your homepage.
I have added a Book Mark in my browsers so that I only have to click it to go to my page and only have to sign in my name and password once per net session. Once there I always check my "Inbox" for messages. That is the place your Block Leader will try to communicate with you. He/she is responsible for keeping an orderly neighborhood, facilitating activities, and helping residents with questions or problems. The path to your home will be http://www.colonycity.com/home/"xxxx" with "xxxx" being your user name.
This is easy as long as you understand the limitations and follow each step in order. You must be using a 4.0 browser or higher. Some preparation helps. Find and remember where on your disk or hard drive the image you want is located. I have created a special sub-directory for mine that is called C:/Pictures. The pictures or graphics must be in a ".gif" or ".jpg" or ".jpeg" format, and be 15k or less in size. If they are not you may be able to manipulate them and resize by using a program such as Paint or Adobe Photo. Once on your Colony City Home Page click on "Update". Then click "Image". Be sure the upper image box is clear. Scroll down to "Browse" and click it and locate the image you want to upload. You may have to select "All Files" in the "Files of Type" box. Then just click "Save" and the upload should be underway. When done be sure to click "Update" before you go back to your Home Page. Click on your browser "Reload" or "Refresh" button and click on your 2D button and it should show an image box that says "Image Not Checked". That just means it is now up to the Block Leader or Block Deputy to check your image and unlock it.
Of course (if you are one of those Rich, Upscale type people). Just go to "Update" and check out the interiors and exteriors now available. The Really Big ones will cost you $2,000. You can also upgrade later when you can afford this life style.
The best explanation is located at the link below. This is Issue No. 5 of the Metaverse News. A short explanation is that to purchase you will Click on an object to display or purchase. You are only allowed to purchase a total of 15 objects before you must transport them and drop them in your home. There is also a limit to how many objects can be in your home at one time. To drop Right Click on the "Backpack" tab next to your Chat Box and you will see a list of the objects you are carrying. Drop it where you want it placed. Then go to the "Objects" tab and Click "Move". If you loose an object in a wall or elsewhere..just "Take" it again and repeat the process.
They are not lost, they are just not visible. Most probably they are embedded in the floor. First you must remember which object you just dropped. The go to the "Public Objects" tab, Highlight the Object, Right Click and Click on "Move". Use the Arrows to move the Object "Up" until it appears, then put it where you want it and Click the "Check" to Save the Change. If your Objects are often becoming embedded it is possible that the point of view of your Avatar is set too low. You might try Right Clicking on your screen and using the "Movement/Slide" commands to raise your Avatar before you attempt a Drop.
Click on the 2D link or go to "My Info"/"Personal Information". Under "Personal Information you can also enter the URL address for your other Home Page, reset your Chat Default, change your screen name, or subscribe to the Newsletter.
Yes you may. If you know some basic HTML or have a friend who can help you. Another way is to go around looking at other people's message boards. When you find one you like, right click on some background area and choose View Source. A text editor will open up which will allow you to save the code. Study the code and see how they did it.
You can place links to your places of interest (up to 5) by Clicking the "Update" button/"Information"(at the bottom of the page) and type in your links. Be sure to type the right address and after you update and return to your home be sure to follow the links to be sure that they work properly.
Go to your "Update" button and Click "Information". Then Click the "Reset" button. From this point on you will have to be careful if you have used HTML code to construct your Info/Message/Inbox pages. Resetting any of the three pages will delete your code and revert to default, so you may have to reconstruct. Open up all three boxes and right click in them and choose View Source. A text editor will open up and allow you to save the code. The first "Reset" button will default the "Information" Board. The second and third the "Message" Board, and the last two the "Inbox" Board. Although this may cause you some additional work it is preferable to having to move to a new house.
Click on the "Colonies"/Maps link at Right side of your page. This is a search engine that can find open spots in all the lands. The information is updated hourly.
Many avatars can be controlled with keywords but some cannot. You
will just have to try out the avatar you have brought in. The
gestures are controlled by keywords in "Body Language" section that
you will find under the "Options" tab next to your chat box. The
configuration is fairly easy if you are careful in your editing.
The following keywords (or your choice) inserted in your macros
cause the following gestures:

If you want to edit the
default keywords so that the gestures will respond to the word you
type you first select the ID#. Then add the word or delete a word
in the box below. Then click update.
The first place to search is the "Avatar Library" located under the "Options" menu tab next to your chat box. I personally like the "Meet Factory". Just click on the one you want and it will be imported for you. You may have to reload or refresh your page to try it out. You can have more than one avatar in your file at a time and switch back and forth. You can also find the URL's of avatars and copy down the location and retype it into your "Personal Information" box located under "Options". Other links to find avatars are listed below but be aware that some do not support gestures or they may not work in Colony City.

If you get stuck behing someone else's avatar or fly into a wall or some other foolish position..find another resident's name in the people box..Right Click on it and "Beam To"..this allows you to get away from that bad position. You can also Right Click on the screen and choose "Viewpoints" and "Reset".

How do I "cut and paste" text from my chat screen?
To copy text (the words in the chat screen) highlite the text you want to copy by holding the Left mouse button down on the words you want then (while holding down the left button) drag your pointer across the text you want then...... (see "copy" below).
To copy or paste, right click on the words you hilighted then choose "copy" or "paste".
How do I change my fonts or text size?
On the bottom of your chat screen (to the right of where you type in your chat) you will see something like this.
To change the text size just click on the up arrow to make the text bigger or the down arrow to make it smaller.

Right Click on another resident's name and Click "Whisper" or Click "Invite Chat"...this allows you to talk person-to-person without anybody else listening.
This is a pager-type system that works when you are in Colony City, and if you just minimize it, after you have left the City. You can set it up and start it by Clicking on "My Info".
Go to your "Options" tab and Click "Chat Macros". You will see a list of macros titled from /g1 through /g8. The first by default is %1 waves hello to %2. "%1" stands for your "nickname" and "%2" stands for either "everybody" or the name of the person you have selected when you activate a chat macro in the chat box. To edit the macros you follow the same procedure as edit gestures. Select the line to edit and in the box below type in the words or phrase you want . Then click update. To use the macro you will Click the envelope image below the chat box and select one of the 8 choices.
This is really cool ! It first became available at the end of March. This feature allows you to hear (through your computer speaker if you have one) the text that you or others enter in the Chat boxes. You can also pick from a variety of different voice modes from female to male to old to young.
In order to activate you will go to the "Options" tab next to the Chat box and select "Voice". You will then choose a voice mode or accept the default. Make sure the "Enable" button is checked, then Click OK. For some a short download of the updated plug in may be required.
There may be some problems. You may have to change the way you type because it may not recognize your words and it will then spell out the letters. There presently are no voice inflections so questions sound the same as statements. In a crowded place such as the Plaza you may want to Right Click on some people's names and Click "Ignore" in order to hold down the noise. Some times you may get an error message that says the feature cannot be used. Just do a screen Reload or Refresh and it may begin to work again. Also it will become ever more important that we watch our language in the Plaza and try to keep it clean and civil.
In Netscape or Explorer Click on "Help"/"About". In Blaxxun Click on the "Options" tab next to the Chat Box..then Click "About Blaxxun Contact".
An excellent way is to join the Colony City Web-Ring by Clicking on the link below. After becoming a member you will be allowed to put Colony City graphics and links on your Home Pages. Ask for Klegau and tell him Mike sent you.

On the menu bar on the left, bottom in just about any place, there is two buttons marked 'Daily' and 'Weekly' just under 'News'.
Click on the "Citizens" link at right side of your page. This is a search engine that can find citizens by name/experience/job. From there you can Click on their name or residence to go to their homes. Don't forget you can use the Instant Messenger to see if they are on there.
At the "Log-In" screen, Click "Quick Help". There are also links for those with log-in problems or if you forgot your password. This can also be done from your home by Clicking "My Info"/"Personal Information".
I have to thank MauveCat and Edion for teaching me this trick. To take a picture, use the "Save Screen Image" command of something like a "Good" Paint program. It will probably be saved as a .jpg file. It then can be saved, printed, or sent to your friends via an Email Attachment, or instantly via ICQ as a File Transfer. This is so cool because you can have a friend over at your "House" and take a picture of you and then instantly send it to you by ICQ where you can view it. Or have the friend take a picture of all the assembled friends at your party and then you can post the picture on your photo album on your other Home Page !
There are now Clubs for just about everything. Click the "The Clubs" link on the Right side of your page and when you get there be sure and Bookmark the location for the future. There is also a GREEN link to Clubs on the FLM Home Page. In the upper box select the filter you want so you do not have to page through about 200 different clubs. If you know what interest you are looking for your can enter a keyword in the next box. Then all you have to do is Click on "Join" and you will be accepted or contacted soon by the Club Owner.
